PETITIE WETENSCHAPPERS: GEEN NIEUWE GASBORINGEN Vandaag gaat minister Hermans in debat over het versneld uitbreiden van gaswinning op de Noordzee. Volgens de overheid en de gasindustrie zal ‘schoner’ Nederlands gas ‘viezer’ buitenlands gas deels vervangen. De onderbouwing dat we met meer gaswinning zowel onze energiezekerheid als het klimaat dienen is vanuit wetenschappelijk, economisch en juridisch oogpunt echter ronduit zwak. Met deze petitie maken wij de zorgen van meer dan 200 wetenschappers over de uitbreiding van de gaswinning kenbaar aan de woordvoerders Klimaat van de Tweede Kamer. Wij roepen de minister op om de uitbreiding van de gaswinning een halt toe te roepen. Het is een doodlopende weg om midden in een klimaatcrisis nieuwe fossiele projecten goed te keuren.
Press release Wetenschappers roepen Minister Hermans op: geen nieuwe gasboringen Donderdag 3 april gaat minister Hermans met Tweede Kamerleden in debat over het versneld uitbreiden van gaswinning op de Noordzee. Een kwartier voor aanvang overhandigt een delegatie wetenschappers een petitie aan de woordvoerders klimaat van verschillende politieke partijen. In de petitie worden ze opgeroepen om de uitbreidingsplannen van minister Hermans van Klimaat en Groene Groei een halt toe te roepen. Woordvoerder Guus Dix: "De overheid en de gasindustrie zingen al een paar jaar hetzelfde lied: 'schoner' Nederlands gas zal 'viezer' buitenlands gas deels vervangen. We dienen zowel onze energiezekerheid als het klimaat, is het refrein, door vergunningstrajecten in te korten en financiële steun van de overheid flink op te schroeven. De wetenschappelijke, economische en juridische onderbouwing is echter ronduit zwak."

Opinion Letter about demonstration rights The Dutch House of Representatives recently accepted two motions that seek to limit the access to university campuses for people without official institutional affiliations. Around the same time, several Dutch politicians made statements that betrayed disturbingly authoritarian attitudes towards participants in campus protests. We find these developments deeply worrying, as they threaten academic freedom and the democratic right to protest. Therefore, we have sent a letter to the Minister of Education, Culture and Science and other politicians.

The Netherlands needs a policy that is sustainable for more than four years, and that incorporates a vision of the country and the world that we, as well as our descendants, can live with. And a policy that is fair to all people.
